Today we’ve got some breaking news about Lisa Nova and Rocketboom. Lisa Donnovan, an American actress and writer prominently known as LisaNova online, signed with Rocketboom to host two news shows each week for their daily news vlog.
Rocketboom’s current host, Joanne Colan, will stay on board reading the news as the solid anchor five days a week. The addition of Lisa will bump their content to seven days a week. Let’s be honest, it’s going to be a nice change, especially on YouTube.
The clips that LisaNova’s crew produce will be uploaded to her youtube channel with about 150 thousand subscribers in conjunction to Rocketboom’s channel with 8,000 subscribers.
I can’t say how much she’s making off this deal, but I do know it’s substantial and gives hope to content creators out there making video for the web.
Rocketboom intends to leverage their own popularity in six months time, roll out a video platform and grow into a competing network with Revision3, Next New Networks and For Your Imagination. They received funding from Agility studios to work on an unnamed site. (Read more about Agility here).
My own success online was inspired by LisaNova when I started watching her silly comedic parodies and short films in 2006. Rocketboom helped get pop17 off the ground and running in March of 2008. Since that time, Pop17 and Rocketboom went separate ways. I could not be more appreciative for their support in the past and we will remain good friends.
Both have come a long way. In August, 2008 Sony Pictures Television a signed seven figure guarantee over the next two years with Rocketboom. The deal was inked for distribution and advertising.
TV will always have the upper hand in ad sales because they still reach more people. However, looking at all the money being poured into social media you have got to wonder. It’s going to happen and it’s just a matter of time.
More to the point, Lisa will have more authority and influence in blogging circles and media outlets. Lisa Nova isn’t popular everywhere else and isn’t in the news often. This partnership will help her to reach media outside of YouTube. On the other hand, I predict that Lisa will bring the fun and flirty side of Rocketboom back.
